TRIP TO TABARCA

Background
INTERESTING EXCURSION TO A SMALL BUT PICTURESQUE ISLAND.

Since my brother has an 8-meter yacht in the port of Altea told me about his trip to Tabarca this winter, where he spent night, toying with the idea of trying the same thing, but stopping only to eat and returning in the afternoon, unthinkable in a sailboat trip given the speed at which the sail. The approach to a tour of these features can not be other than taking the decision and carry it out. The main factor and certainly paramount in choosing the day was undoubtedly the time and sea state. Being a strange summer, this 2000, did not stop surprising us, the day appeared calm but overcast with light rain until the evening, which it was still strange to be in August in the Mediterranean. The day we chose was particularly bright and with little morning breeze.
Leaving aside that accompanied the weather too much in these early days, another factor was the route to follow. The distance in a straight line that separates the island of Tabarca Campomanes Port in Altea is about 67 km (Passing over Sierra Frost), which cost becomes about 80 km, so that between us we put round about 160 km in which to do in a day is a respectable distance at sea, the advantage is that the risks go coasting a mechanical problem on the transfer or sea conditions are minimized by having near the coast. But if sea conditions varied during the journey, could become a real nightmare, since the speed can be greatly diminished by the sea state.
